Navigating the Future of Tech in Switzerland: AI, Cloud Computing, and Cybersecurity

by Alberto Ochoa

As the Head of Perm at Experis Switzerland, I am constantly attuned to the evolving landscape of technology and its impact on the job market. Switzerland, renowned for its innovation and technological prowess, is at the forefront of several key developments that are shaping the future of tech. In this blog, I will delve into three pivotal areas: AI, cloud computing, and cybersecurity, and explore how these advancements are influencing the recruitment landscape.

Investment in AI: A Strategic Priority

The Experis CIO 2025 Outlook reveals that 67% of CIOs plan to invest more in AI in 2025. This surge in AI investment is driven by the need for digital transformation and the integration of AI skills into existing roles. Switzerland's commitment to AI is evident through various initiatives and platforms that support AI development and deployment. For instance, Swisscom's Swiss AI Platform provides high-performance processing power and ensures data sovereignty by keeping data within Switzerland.

At Experis we see a growing demand for AI specialists. Companies are seeking professionals who can develop and implement AI applications, ensuring they stay competitive in a rapidly evolving market. The challenge, however, lies in the talent shortage, with 76% of tech organizations struggling to find skilled talent. This gap presents an opportunity for us to bridge the divide by sourcing and nurturing AI talent.

Cloud Computing: Expanding Horizons

Cloud computing is another area where Switzerland is making significant strides. The opening of the AWS Europe (Zurich) Region in November 2022 marked a milestone in cloud infrastructure. AWS's investment of up to 5.9 billion Swiss francs by 2036 underscores its commitment to supporting Switzerland's economy and technological growth. The AWS Zurich Region provides Swiss businesses with access to advanced cloud services, enabling them to innovate and scale their operations.

For recruitment companies, this expansion means an increased demand for cloud computing experts. As businesses migrate to the cloud, they require professionals who can manage and optimize cloud infrastructure. The top in-demand tech skills identified in the CIO report—cloud computing (34%)—highlight the critical need for cloud expertise. We are poised to help companies find the right talent to navigate this transition.

Cybersecurity: A National Priority

Cybersecurity remains a top concern for CIOs, with cybercrime hitting $9.5T in 2024. The establishment of the National CyberSecurity Center (NCSC) in 2024 reflects Switzerland's proactive approach to cybersecurity. The NCSC serves as the federal government's competence center for cybersecurity, providing support to businesses, public administrations, and educational institutions.

The top in-demand tech skills also include cybersecurity (46%), emphasizing the need for professionals who can safeguard digital assets. As cyber threats become more sophisticated, the demand for cybersecurity experts continues to rise. The recruitment industry plays a crucial role in sourcing talent that can address these challenges and ensure the security of critical infrastructure.

Every week, we hear it from clients: ‘We need IT talent, but we just can’t find the right people.’ With 76% of tech leaders in the same boat, it’s clear this isn’t just a hiring issue — it’s a growing industry gap. The question now isn’t just where to find talent, but how we grow it.

Addressing Challenges and Opportunities

Despite these advancements, 56% of tech leaders cite senior management tech knowledge gaps as a growing challenge. This underscores the importance of ongoing tech upskilling, yet only 28% of global organizations offer such programs. At Experis we advocate for continuous learning and development to bridge these gaps and empower IT professionals with the knowledge they need to drive technological innovation.
